Catch-ups

Right. Time to do some catch-ups after neglecting this blog for soo long. But, yet i couldn't think of anything to write..
hmm.. how about topic on our brain system? Ever wonder how our brain functions when it comes to deciding stuff?
Dual-process theory - system 1 (implicit & automatic), system 2 (explicit and controlled). In short,
eg : Your drive (stepping on brakes, accelerator, switching gear) almost without any effort / solving simple maths like 2+2 =? and etc. -system 1
and system 2? eg: solving complicated maths problem, or trying to make an effort to make yourself do something.
Now, the interesting thing is that both these systems are kind of separate yet works co-operatively with each other. When one is face with simple questions, immediate answers came up from system 1. When one is face with difficult or complicated questions in which system 1 could not come up with the answer, it passes on to system 2 where your rational mind will search through our entire brain for the answer, and if there is none, smartly, it'll came up with another streak of linked questions but much simpler to answer and passes it back to system 1 where system 1 will reflect the immediate answer. How cool is that? Let's see.
Q: Do you love him/her? -too complicated for system 1 so you passes on to system 2 where it directs to a simpler set of questions.
--> Do you like to be with him/her? would you like to live with him/her? and etc.. and throw it back to system 1 where you could answer. So if you answer yes, your brain will function as, 'I like to be with this person, I like to live with this person THUS i must love him/her.' See? Quite amazing huh?
System 1 is like your pre-set belief system pre-programmed at will by your system 2. It's automatic, easy to access and deep rooted. But can you change it? Can you re-programm it or even ask it to hold on a sec? The answer is Yes, you can, But at WILL. Your system 2 is like your WILL, by calling it up, it grants you the power to change your beliefs, think deeper, analyze situations and etc BUT it has much smaller memory capacity and works much slower compare to system 1. Now, so far of reading, strikes anything to you yet? Haha. If yes, try google it on 'dual-process theory' or, simpler, buy this book, best-seller and worths every penny in your wallet. LOL
